Sacred and Strange

If you’ve been going to church for a long time, you might take for granted some of the peculiar things that Christians do when we come together. Or if you’re relatively new, you might be baffled by the odd things that happen during a worship service. Either way, it’s important to understand why the community of faith has been engaging in these “sacred “(which is just an ancient word for “set apart, “or “strange “) practices for thousands of years. We’ll see how our weird church rites were commanded by God and modeled by the community of faith from the Old Testament to the New. These practices are meant for our blessing— to help us move toward a whole life!

Joining a Commune?

We have fewer and fewer “third spaces “—places where people gather together simply for the sake of being with one another. Even community events that used to be primarily experienced in a group (such as cheering on your local team or going to a movie) are now mainly experienced from the (isolated) comfort of our couch and big screen. So why does the church make such a big deal about gathering together every weekend?
